Itinerario
Pedal through picturesque landscapes along a route that starts from Catania and crosses the valley of Simeto to Raddusa.
Along the way, you will pass through Ramacca, immersed between golden hills and wheat fields, discovering rural views and breathtaking panoramas. A route of about 60 km, ideal for cyclists who love nature and secondary roads, with gentle climbs and scenic stretches perfect for an unforgettable ride.
The second stage of the route starts from Raddusa and leads to Pietraperzia.
A fascinating itinerary that crosses the historic Piazza Armerina and the village of Barrafranca.
Pedal through rolling hills, rural landscapes and scenic roads, with a stop at the Villa Romana del Casale, UNESCO heritage site, famous for its extraordinary floor mosaics, among the best preserved in the world. Dating back to the 4th century AD, it was a sumptuous Roman aristocratic residence, with scenes of daily life, mythology and hunting. A jewel of the art musiva that tells the greatness of the Roman Empire.
After Piazza Armerina, the route continues through olive groves and cultivated fields to Barrafranca, then reach Pietraperzia, with its imposing castle.
The third stage of the route is about 80 km long and reaches Agrigento.
The route winds through rolling hills, wheat fields and scenic roads, offering evocative glimpses of Sicily. After a first part immersed in nature, you reach Caltanissetta. Known for its historic centre, with the Cathedral of Santa Maria La Nova and the Castle of Pietrarossa, it offers an authentic and welcoming atmosphere. Surrounded by hills and countryside, it is also famous for its food and wine tradition, with typical flavors of the Sicilian cuisine.
From here, the journey continues through gentle ups and downs to Agrigento, where the majestic Valley of the Temples awaits cyclists with its unique historical heritage. An experience that combines sports, breathtaking landscapes and culture.
Agrigento, Italian Capital of Culture 2025, is the starting point of this fourth stage by bike, a journey between history, sea and picturesque villages. After admiring the Valley of the Temples, the route heads towards Porto Empedocle. Known for being the birthplace of writer Andrea Camilleri, it inspired the famous village of Vigata in the novels of Commissario Montalbano. Its historic centre is home to the Charles V Tower, an ancient Spanish fortification, while the seafront offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean. Porto Empedocle is also the ideal starting point to visit the Scala dei Turchi, one of the most fascinating cliffs in Sicily.
Continue along the coastal road to Sciacca, famous for its thermal baths, the port and ceramic tradition. With its historic centre characterized by narrow streets and picturesque squares, Sciacca boasts numerous monuments, including the Cathedral of San Gerlando and the Castle Incantato, a unique sculptural park created by the artist Filippo Bentivegna. The city is also famous for its thermal waters, which since ancient times have been used for wellness treatments. Sciacca is also an important centre for ceramic production, with numerous craft workshops.
The last part of the route crosses vineyards and hills until you reach Menfi, famous for its wines and golden beaches.
Starting from Menfi, famous for its vineyards and beautiful beaches, the bike route leads you to Sambuca di Sicilia, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
The route winds through hills, olive groves and expanses of vineyards, offering breathtaking views of the Sicilian countryside.
Menfi, with its cellars and crystal clear sea, gives way to Sambuca, a charming village that rises on a hill and offers spectacular views. Walking through its narrow streets, you will discover old churches and the castle that dominates the landscape. Known for producing some of the best wines on the island, especially quality white wine, such as the famous “Grillo”. The town is also an important agricultural centre, with olive and citrus crops. Its beaches, such as that of Lido Fiori, are among the most beautiful in the area, characterized by golden sand and crystal clear waters.
Starting from Sambuca, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, the route winds through green hills, vineyards and olive groves, offering spectacular views of the Sicilian countryside.
After leaving the village, you cycle along secondary roads that lead to Corleone, famous for its history and culture, also linked to the tradition of the mafia, but today also known for its mountainous landscapes and tranquility.
The route offers a perfect combination of nature, history and authenticity, with the possibility to discover hidden corners and secular traditions of this part of Sicily.
The last stage of the itinerary starts from Corleone, known for its rural tradition and the spectacular surrounding hills, the route develops between panoramic paths and hilly roads that offer breathtaking views of the Sicilian countryside.
Cycling towards Palermo, you will cross small villages and landscapes that gradually change until entering the dynamic urban environment of the city.
Before arriving in Palermo, you reach Monreale, famous for its majestic Cathedral, UNESCO World Heritage, with its beautiful Byzantine mosaics that tell the sacred history. From Monreale, the route continues towards Palermo, the regional capital, passing through small villages and landscapes that gradually change until entering the dynamic urban environment of the city.
Palermo, with its rich historical and cultural heritage including the Cathedral, the Teatro Massimo and historic markets such as the Ballarò, is the final destination of this fascinating journey, which combines natural beauty with vibrant urban culture.
